BACKGROUND:

Cool Logistics Ltd manufactures and supplies temperature controlled packaging to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Striving to be a pleasure to do business with has been at the core of Cool Logistics' business culture since the company was established in 2000. Following the sale of the business equity to Swedish packaging giants SCA Packaging in mid-2005, their Managing Director was keen to establish a level of team performance that would successfully manage the transition into SCA, while preserving the values on which the company had built their success. In addition it was important that the leadership team had the skills, attitudes and behaviours to underpin Cool’s future growth and development. With this in mind Cool asked Values Based Leadership to help with the development of the senior leadership team.

SOLUTION:

VBL provided on-going support to Cool’s leadership team in a flexible team development programme. This included facilitated workshops on team performance and strategic alignment, 360 degree feedback, one-to-one executive coaching, VBL's on-line team diagnostic tool TeamPulse, and team building exercises, using both Belbin and MBTI.

Creating open and honest communication has been the basis for building levels of mutual trust, respect and support in the team and ensures that robust relationships have been built between team members. Fundamental issues regarding the future of the business have been addressed during the programme which has been described by their MD as “very effective as there were some difficult points to address, but ultimately we came out feeling extremely positive.”

OUTCOME:

Support  for the team is on-going and during the time that VBL has been working with Cool Logistics the team has successfully integrated the organisation into the SCA Packaging corporate structure. It has identified and implemented a significant business change in terms of focus and structure and also achieved revenue growth at Cool.

The team have subsequently overseen the introduction of an expanded product range in the temperature controlled market and become a role model of a values based approach to performance improvement and leadership within SCA.
